Color is the most important element. The colors in your rug, whether you want to complement or contrast the rest of your furniture, make an impact. Traditionally, Persian rugs had a limited color range, however, these days, Persian and Oriental rugs come in a variety of stylish colors.

Size refers to both the size and the shape of your rug. Are you looking for a rectangular rug that covers the entire floor? Do you want a small, circular rug to be placed underneath a clear table? Did you want an area rug or a runner? Where do you plan on installing your new rug? Are you open to resizing and reshaping a rug? Take some time to consider what kind of rug your room will need.

Area rugs come in a variety of designs, and this can be quite overwhelming. Consider meeting with a rug expert or an interior designer, or perhaps looking through magazines for design inspiration. On the other hand, you may not even have a design preference – you just want a rug that looks good.

Price is always an important factor. Rugs of various quality levels will be priced accordingly. Beware of deals that are too good to be true, as a dirt-cheap silk rug may turn out to be synthetic silk instead! Although the price of area rugs may be daunting to first time buyers, it may help to consider a rug to be an investment. A well-made area rug will last for many years, and it is not uncommon to come across antique rugs that still look excellent.
